What kind of depression is this and how do you treat it?
Okay, here's the deal:
My grandmother went through a big problem between her and my father. It something concerning financial and personal issues. She currently lives with my uncle right now.
Now here's the problem, they started to notice that everyday, she talks lesser and stopped eating. Then finally a few weeks ago, she just stopped talking, she cant walk, she just sits in one corner and tries to sleep.
We visited her a while ago, we tried to talk some sense into her so she'd be back to her normal self. But all she could say are weak 'Huh?'s or 'What?' or 'Ok' -- then she'd go back to shutting her eyes.
My uncle said she prolly didnt wanna talk coz she just copes with her depression by shutting herself from her problems so she wont remember.
How do you treat this? Is there a way that we could help her? We cant bring her to a psych coz she cant talk.
What do we do?
She's in her 70s I think...

This can be solved by ur father only whoz the cause . Elders have a lot of egoism as insecurity builds with age . Take every care of her as she did to ur father when he was young , the bond between mother and son is stronger than we can expect . so its a totally imotional thing ,...needs time.

She has got to see a doctor. You can't just let her be in a funk/depression. Can I ask how old she is? What scares me is what if it isn't depression and something more serious (not to scare you) but I would talk to your uncle or dad and get her in to see a doctor.. Good luck to you and your family. ** I would take her in, it could be a number of things given her age...thanks and again good luck!

That's worrisome! It could be some kind of neurological problem, like incipient dementia, or a mini stroke or something. Definitely take her to the doctor!

At seventy she is allowed to just sit there . When life is no longer a pleasure you are allowed to go back to heaven. If she doesn't move she will go to heaven faster. Many nursing homes let them have freedom too.
