Why do Americans answer in the UK and Ireland only section?
and then try to correct the British asker as to spelling and grammatical differences?

It's because there version is probably more boring than those of the rest of the world. They think they have the right to tell everyone that they spell and pronounce word wrong. And I do believe that they earn more point per answer than we do, that's why they are always top of the leader board.

There isn't really a UK & Ireland ONLY section.
Each of us has a menu on the Home page where we can choose to see questions from our country only, or all English questions.
It's very easy to get into a "place" that isn't your own country.
A lot of Americans simply aren't aware of the spelling differences, but people shouldn't be correcting each other's spelling anyway.
The best thing to do, if you have a question about a particular place, is to mention it upfront in the question, or ask the target audience to answer, or "UK only, please" or something like that.
A lot of times, such requests are respected.
Internationality is one of the GOOD things about the web.
But, yes, I'm sure it's annoying to have a bunch of yanks assuming you're in the US and giving wacky answers.

It can appear as though insular Americans assume they're the only nation on Earth, easily rectified by stating you want UK answers.
However it's also plain that half the time people don't bother to read the questions, witness the usual reply of "contact your state's DMV" when people ask questions about road tax or MoTs, both patently UK expressions.
Or maybe they don't realise the world exists beyond Elmer's Lube Shop, under the shade tree opposite the bar . . .

nicely, we in the united kingdom have the alternative of choosing "uk & eire questions basically", probably the US ingredient has a similar option for US questions. that would desire to intend, consequently, that the valuable individuals do no longer problem to appreciate they have that determination and can't hold close that there are different international places in the worldwide, bless 'em!

sometimes it happens.
i think it would be helpful if it showed the country the asker was from...
simply because I can quote a UK price for say e.g. computer hardware, that will be different in the states etc.
