Hotels refusing to take cash as payment is it widespread?

I've noticed that several of the "better" hotel chains like Amerisuites don't accept cash anymore. Now i checked with the treasury department's website and it said that businesses do NOT have to take cash if they don't want to if they did Sam's Club gas stations and Apple would be in trouble. Is this a widespread thing that anyone else has noticed or is that not the case? I haven't used cash in a long time because i think it's antiquated but curiosity made me ask. I asked a friend of mine who works at a hotel if they did and they said their hotel does to cut down on people throwing parties and to have a way to charge people for damages and stuff like smoking in a nonsmoking room.

Most hotels will allow you to pay in cash but require you to have a credit card on file in case of damages, in my experience.

If the local office does not have a cashier they can only accept checks and money orders. Not all offices have a cashier. If you asked where the nearest office was with a cashier they should have been able to tell you. If you walked in with a truckload of coin, even an office with a cashier can refuse it if it's not properly rolled. Same for large quantities of small bills since every count as to be witnessed by the payer and the cashier from start to finish. Edit: You should have asked why they would not accept cash if they were set up to do so. In short, if they were set up to accept cash, they would have, so someone isn't being forthwith with all of the facts -- either at the IRS office or... Edit2: When you hand over a check or money order, the IRS records the payment as of that date. If you mail it in, they use the postmark date. The only time that changes is if the check or money order bounces for any reason. Your canceled check or money order receipt is your receipt for the taxes paid. The payment IS resolved immediately.

It's becoming more and more common... and you haven't been able to rent a car for years now, without a credit card.
