It doesn't surprise me at all. They are probably doing far worse things to those being detained. Read the book The Sorrows of Empire by Chalmer Johnson, this is an agency with no morals or scruples.

No. shock. After all we are talking the CIA. Physical torture as they're using seldom works. the subject will confess to anything just to make it stop. They need to use more surgically tuned psychological techniques.

I can't say if they work or not but due to the fact that they are not covered in the Genva Convention as uniformed armed combantants. Technically they could have been shot as spies.
