Why do some restaurants put ice in urinals?

Why do some restaurants put ice in urinals? Are trying to save water? Are they trying to prevent odor from coming up? They can just as easily put it in a sink.

Here are some theories I've seen:

The melting ice acts as a slow, continuous flush

Ice cools the air around the urinal. Cool air sinks, which serves to contain the smell

    Cold discourages drain flies

Fun to melt, helps users aim better, compensates for poor male sanitary habits

dirtboy31178: I almost rolled over laughing when I read that!!!! Boys are so funny and easily entertained! Personally...I've never heard of it...but I'm a girl, so I don't use urinals on a regular basis :)

Its to keep the urine fresh and cool so it doesn't smell too bad. A marvellous idea.

I have seen that. My only guess is that they are trying to kill the smell.

i don't think that's ice, its an air freshener that's activated by moisture

I have never seen or heard of such a thing, sounds like an employee discarding ice from the salad bar possibly and thats where he/she dumped it?Its definetly not a common practice of any sort to put ice in the urinals.
