STD- Genital Herpes?
I am a 19-year-old female. When I went to the Doctors to get a S.T.D. Blood test, it came back positive for Genital Herpes. I was so surprised. My boyfriend and I have been together for 4 years and before we started dating, we were both virgins. After I found out about the STD, my boyfriend was tested and it was negative for everything including genital herpes.
Since he did not give it to me and I have never been with another guy before I am very confused about the whole thing, and how I could have gotten it. Is there any other way to get it with out sex? Please help. Thank you.

There are a number of possible scenarios:
(1) Lab tests for herpes are notoriously unrealible in between outbreaks. Your boyfriend may have tested negative, but it is possible he still has herpes. (See the CDC's website for herpes: http://www.cdc.gov/std/Herpes/STDFact-Herpes.htm#d...
(2) Have you ever had cold sores? Does your boyfriend ever get cold sores? There are two strains of the herpes virus: HSV-1 and HSV-2. HSV-1 is the one we normally associate with cold sores. HSV-2 is the one we normally associate with genital herpes. It is possible to be infected with either one in any area. Although not as common, it is possible that you could have HSV-1 in your genital area. If he performed oral sex on you while he had an active cold sore, there you go.
(3) Another possible cause...you stated you were a virgin, and I am assuming by virgin you mean that you never engaged in vaginal intercourse prior to being with your current boyfriend. However, did you engage in any other types of sexual activity prior to having intercourse with your boyfriend (e.g. oral sex, anal sex)? Herpes can be transmitted via oral and anal sex.
EDIT--It is a myth that you can get herpes from toilet seats. "The genital herpes virus is a fragile virus that dries out when it is exposed to air. There have been no proven cases of genital herpes transmission from a toilet seat. "

There are two types of herpes simplex virus: HSV-1 and HSV-2. Both virus types can cause sores around the mouth (herpes labialis) and on the genitals (genital herpes). Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV).
Cold sores sometimes called fever blisters, are groups of small blisters on the lip and around the mouth. The skin around the blisters is often red, swollen, and sore. The blisters may break open, leak a clear fluid, and then scab over after a few days. They usually heal in several days to 2 weeks.
The herpes simplex virus usually enters the body through a break in the skin around or inside the mouth. It is usually spread when a person touches a cold sore or touches infected fluid—such as from sharing eating utensils or razors, kissing an infected person, or touching that person's saliva. A parent who has a cold sore often spreads the infection to his or her child in this way. Cold sores can also be spread to other areas of the body.

Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are passed from person to person during sexual activity. STDs such as chlamydia and gonorrhea are caused by bacteria. Single-celled organisms called parasites cause trichomoniasis. Genital herpes and human papillomavirus (HPV) are caused by viruses. The HIV virus, responsible for causing AIDs, is one of the deadliest STDs.

I am absolutely terrified and I feel so alone. I just found out last week that I tested positive for hsv1 and 2. I have been with the same man for the past 10 years and within the last year found out that he has cheated on me with numerous women. I am so scared that I can give it to my children by kissing them and them eating with me...I feel like my whole life has changed. And even though the nurses, my doctor, and websites say that a lot of people have it I still feel like I am by myself. My self esteem has dropped and I feel like I have been used up. But now, My life is very happy.

you said you were both virgins and hadn't had sex with other people...does this include oral sex? If a guy with a cold soar (which is a kind of herpes) went down on you could of gotten the herpes from lip to lip contact.

well there's a lot of different ways this could have happened. S.T.Ds don't always come from vaginal intercourse, or sex. sometimes, one contracts the virus(s) from:
1. a toilet seat
2. if a guy "jacked off" and then "fingered you"
3. or any other way that a person's infected bodily fluid came in contact with any of your genitalia
