I need ideas on how to make money to build a skatepark in my town?
I asked this question in another category and I didn't get any response. I am part of a group of kids and their parents trying to get a skatepark built in out small town. We need about $40,000 and we will have to raise all the money ourselves. I need creative fundraising ideas? This is going to take us a while so any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

start by getting some information about starting a fundraiser... it involves getting a permit, and opening a bank account for the fundraiser to be able to legally accept donations. You will have to account for every dollar spent. Check with your local gov.
Best way I can think of to raise money...
Get some flyers made and hold a skateboarding competition with an entry fee that goes toward the fundraiser. Contact a local radio station to get the word out. Try to get sponsors for the event, make all major donations by companies visible by displaying their logo or signage at the event.....the radio station may even sponsor you. Also, see if you know anyone who is a lawyer to do some probono work to make sure you do everything legally as far as paperwork for the event itself..and you don't want to be personally liable for anything. You can make this a small event, or you can go all out and get area vendor's, restaraunts, etc. to participate selling drinks food... whatever. You might want to structure the competition to include children as well with a simple obstacle course or freestyle. This will give your entire town something to do on a Sunday that is family friendly...and you should have no problem raising 40k in a single day.
Damn...I don't even skate an it sounds like a good time to me.

I live in San Diego, CA, and we have 3 skate parks, which is great. For one, it gives people an alternative to skating streets and rails, so they don't damage public places. Also, skate parks give people a place to organize events, gives kids a safe place to hang out, etc. At the nice parks, people pay to skate there so that they can afford to have some kind of staff and keep everything clean and in one piece. I think a skatepark in your town is a great idea - get some friends together and see if you can make something happen!
