The various wars fought by England caused the number of colonies there to increase, placed a heavy burden on supplying materials for the war effort, and then a heavy (comparatively) tax burden on the colonists.

Those things led to the revolution.

What's up man? Quickly before I answer, I gave a thumbs up to answers that were accetable and well written. If not, I'll try to answer.

Political upheavel made life very difficulet for the colonies. They were asked to fight and pay for the mother colonies, while being taxed without representation. An important idea to consider is that the enlightenment ideas changed the way citizens viewed the king. No longer did kings rule by devine right, but they ruled by the will of the people. Brits demanded a lot from their rulers. Colonists considered themselves British citizens. When they were denied rights garunteed to those back home, the colonists felt betrayed by their government.

As a competing superpower, Britain found itself in the middle of several conflicts (i.e. the French and Indian War). Brits were disatisified with the tax burden placed on them. They petitioned King George III to force the colonies to pay for a portion of the war. Also, Yun is correct in that many resources were extracted from the colonies, but little was given. As a result, rebellion erupted and grew into revolution.

Look up: Townsend acts and Stamp Acts, King George III petitions
