Would you elect an atheist for president?

If you wouldn't please explain why.

Update:

Let's say the candidate is not obsessed with atheism, just simply doesn't have a religion.

Update 2:

Let's not use the 'thumbs up/down' thing people.

This is only an opnionated question.

Update 3:

I just don't want people to feel like their opinion is not welcome here

You can still use the thumbs thing if you want

Religious affiliation is nearly irrelevant. The presidency is a secular position with purely secular duties.

The only time religion would matter is when it's obvious that the candidate is obsessed with it, for better or worse, or when religious shrines outside America would influence domestic decisions.

Okay then. In my opinion, "I Am Legend" was a decent movie and Bob Marley was a good touch. The end was weak, though. They could have done better.

I vote for presidents who have the best qualifications in foriegn policy, military and national security, and economics. Those three things are driving our world now and probably won't be any different 10 years from now.

Religion truly has nothing to do with it.

LOL Legend, "an opinionated question"? So the thumbs are also opinions. I'll give You thumbs up for asking the question, because it's one that i have been thinking about.

I believe that an atheist could do an efficient job of BEING President, but i seriously doubt this country, at this time, would elect him/her.

And i can't elect anyone. Every candidate i ever voted for has lost.

As long as the atheist didn't feel the need to impose his personal religious views on others and respect others rights to believe otherwise then sure he could get my vote. The same test should be applied to a religious person. Any president should represent all the people and needs to respect freedom or religion or freedom from religion.

Now as far as another poster's "oath of office" problem. There is no constitutional requirement to swear on the bible to become president. Its just a tradition, but not required constitutionally.

yes ; no baggage would be a plus .

I'm a little surprised at the Christians that vote based on religion while wanting separation between the two.

but then again people want to know and judge everything about a officials life - then they are surprised when they lie..

we all slant the facts of our lives in some way...

so ya I would vote for a atheist for president.

I would [I'm agnostic most of the time... atheist on bad days!]

In my lifetime there has not been a single candidate who had a reasonable chance of winning who was not religious... All the candidates use phrases such as "God Bless America"...etc..

I think that most of the Christians [especially if they are Fundamentalists] would NEVER vote for an atheist.

yes, i prefer it to be a atheist president, because then his religion wouldn't be the reason why he makes his or her decisions, but at the end of the day, i would pick the candidate who leaves his religion Private and who has good background and has the best plans of improving the country

No. I hate Atheists extra beneficial than I hate holy rollers. i'm an agnostic. no longer something ticks me off extra beneficial than Atheists, slandering and disrespecting religious human beings and attempting to comprise me of their numbers. additionally, with the aid of fact Atheists are numerous tiers of importance plenty extra possibly to positioned on their non faith on their sleeve. it fairly is no longer adequate that they like to have faith in no longer something, yet they could take their non theory to a sparkling point via attacking, slandering and insulting those that do have faith at each and every threat. additionally, with the aid of fact being an agnostic i chanced on the could detect the two factors of the religious concern and that i chanced on that as human beings customarily, Atheists are oftentimes a team of severe losers, catering specially to a crowd built from criminals, drug addicts, and welfare recipients blended with a great dose of have faith fund babies from prosperous families who on no account labored an afternoon of their lives. All in all, i will take a great, midsection of the line Christian, Jew, Hindu or Buddhist any day.

Absaluley. I believe on strong sepration of church and state which America has been straying away from latley i.e. abortion and gay marriage. I definitly would because we need to look at the real issues that government should such as social reform and the economy. We are a secularist state why should religion matter?

Probably not. Because I am a Christian and I tend to vote for Christians just like the majority in the US do.

Btw, did ya notice how all the candidates, both republic and dems claim Christianity?

Billary wants you to know she is a Methodist.

I would always place my vote with the most suitable candiate.

There age, sex, location, cuture or religion would play no part in my desicision making unless it would have profound negative ramifications.
