Cut my exhaust off?
I got a 2000 pontiac grand prix, v6. Should i cut or dismount the end of my exhaust off? I know i might not pass state inspections, but thats not a big deal to me now. Should I do it?
If i cut it off, my car will just be louder in general. Almost as loud as a cherry bomb.

If you do THAT, it will run worse. Why? Because the intake / exhaust was designed as a unit working together. Your timing, valves, intake , etc. will all be thrown off by the change in backflow. Plus - you may think you're sounding cool and louder (which i'm all for), but your route will only do a "hoopdie P.O.S ride with a busted muffler" sound. But hey! , if you want to get an old hardworking farm tractor vibe going on....GO FOR IT!! Don't forget a couple cans of spray red or yellow, and do the wheels right, make sure to overspray onto the tires for that "I'm a redneck in a hurry" look.

ok shall we get some thing at latest. Backpressure costs power. in no way, shape, or style does backpressure help. no longer torque, no longer low end, no longer HP, no longer something. Backpressure potential the engine has to artwork greater stable TO FILL THE CYLINDER. If somebody cares to describe how making the engine artwork greater stable makes greater power everywhere, i might like to hearken to it lol. as properly, why might greater effective exhaust make greater power if backpressure helped? How lots greater explanation do human beings want? Your Olds (all Olds) in inventory style has a great project with exhaust. in spite of the shown fact that it is not the pipes, the muffler, nor the catalytic converter (besides the reality that that layout converter is junk). it is the manifolds. seem at your engine from the drivers part. observe the exhaust pipe is going below the engine. Now flow to the passenger part. you will see that comparable pipe going back into the manifold on that part, then dumping back out into the exhaust pipe to the rear. it is a terrible layout that hugely limits exhaust flow. the only answer to that's headers, and final I knew, there have been none made for our vehicles with that motor. you will locate them for the Chevy (of path) yet that isn't help us. cut back the muffler off to make greater noise in case you like, yet do no longer think of for a minute that it will definitely make greater power, simply by fact it won't.

If there is nothing gained by cutting it off, except making it louder, why do it. Also cutting out the cat and replacing it with a straight pipe, depending on if you are in a state with emissions or not, might not be the answer either. If it is performance and sound you are after there are a few high flow cats out there and performance mufflers that will give you both. Also it may help out with gas mileage.

Why would you want to do that? It won't improve the performance any. I have a '04 GP with 2.8 V6. The exhaust has a nice tone without being very loud. It is a V6 so there isn't any reason to try and make it sound like a top fuel dragster.

You will have a really loud car and it might sound great to you but it won't run any better. It might actually lose power from less back pressure. Also a cop will pull you over and give you a fix it ticket for noise abatement and you will have to put it all back on so leave it alone and imagine that you are driving a noisy car around.

Why would you do that? If your cat convert is f'd up you can cut it out and weld straight pipe in (not allowed to but a low end shop will do it for cash) otherwise it serves no purpose.
