My One Computer wont connect?

Ok, Here is how it is..

I have 2 computers side by side, There is one modem and no router, I have the ethernet cord plugged into one and the usb into another.. It is running on the same modem, and has worked like this for a little over a year..

Now, My one computer wont connect to the internet, it says Acquiring Network Address, then when it says connected 100mb my internet doesnt work on any of my stuff, then I turned the routher off unplugged everything anf then turned it back onn 10 minutes later, now the other computer worked but this one didnt, which wont work because this is my moms, then i did it again and turned this on on first now this one works and mine wont get internet..

Using Comcast Cable internet..

Cable Modem SBV5220..

This computer is using the USB Internet connection..

Any help would be appreciated..

I know i can buy a router and do this but this has always worked and idk why it isnt now..

Nothing changed but when i turned mine on i got nothing....

    My suspicion is a firmware upgrade done to the modem by the modem provider that's giving you problems right now. And problems like this can be very well avoided if you have a router because: a) this will properly route your internet connection to each connected PC as this is it's main job; b) router firmware upgrades are handled manually, meaning nothing will be changed unless you specifically say so.

    If you plan on wiring your computers to the router for the net connection, then you don't even need to buy a wireless router, which means you will even shell out far less money as compared to buying a wireless router. But both are cheap nowadays, you can get a second hand unit for less than $15.

    It shouldn't have worked. The answer lies in the IP address. Comcast should only be giving you one IP address. In order for each pc to communicate on the Internet, each would need a unique IP address.

    If it worked, it must have been due to some fluke/bug in either the cable modem or the Comcast backend network that has now been fixed.

    You need a router.
