I just started setting up my contacts too. It's nice in that if I want to e-mail one of them quickly thru' Answers, all I have to do is go to that part of my profile page and then click on their avatar.

Another good feature of it is that if someone is your contact, there will be a little blue icon next to their screen name when they ask or answer a question. We had a member that was cloned not too long ago and it wasn't very pleasant for her. Aside from most of us knowing she would never post in such an ugly manner, those who were her contacts knew immediately because the icon wasn't there.

Before making someone a contact, I e-mailed them first...just to get the go ahead from them. Just feel that it's the right thing to do.

Hope this has helped a little!

If you click on an avatar you make that person your contact...you will then receive have options on knowing when they have posted a question, etc....they will also receive notice you have made them a contact and can become a 'fan' of yours also.

You might benefit from reading the Help section and FAQ's and the Guidelines so you become more familiar with the site :-)

You can build a personal network made up of contacts (other Yahoo members) -- people you might like to contact. Adding a person as a contact within your network gives you access to their Q&A content (if it publicly available). In some ways, it is sort of "buddy" system, where people with similar interests, or who like each other's Q&A, can connect.

I'm attaching information from Yahoo's Help pages about this.

If you see people who you like , whether it is the questions they ask or the way they answer. You click on their avatar and add to your contact list. They can do the same to yours and then you have a fan. Sometimes when you come on here you will see questions they have asked or starred and then you will know what they have been up to.

  • When you add someone as your contact, you will receive an email when they ask a question. The same is true when they have added you as a contact - they will get an email telling them that you have asked a question. If you find someone's questions particularly interesting, you can add them so that you're notified whenever they ask a question. Just a note - you can add contacts without their permission, and they can do the same without yours.

Just read the questions that appeal to you and answer as you deem them important or not to answer. If others like your answers they will tell you and if they don't they will tell you that too. The main reason we all come here is to enjoy each others' company, maybe learn a few new things and to have fun without hurting anyone. Basically all life should be!

I don't understand it either. I get emails that people have connected to me but I'm not sure what to do with them. I'll keep checking back on this question so I can learn about it.

  • contacts and network are the people in Y!A who you have added to your list of connections.
