Do you think that scientists that are trying to recreate the big bang are a bit stupid?
When they are not sure what is going to happen?

I am sure that you are much more well informed and intelligent than the physicists investigating fundamental particles.
I am positive that your instincts - honed on years of vegging out on the sofa, watching sci-fi films - are much better than the instincts of the mathematicians and scientists who have been modelling the experiment for years.
we're all doomed.... doomed i tell ye'

Increasing the energy of a few individual particles to that they would have had just after the big bang is hardly comparable in any way to the big bang itself - all of the mass energy of the universe in a space smaller than an orange. That is one of the most ridiculous statements I have ever read.
And the ONLY way science progresses is to do experiments you do not know the answer to. That is the definition of progress - so what you are saying is that scientists should no longer be allowed to discover new things.
Whats more, scientists do have a very good idea of what will happen, and an excellent idea of what won't. So they know that there is absolutely no risk from the experiment. Because you do not know how they know this is no reason to cry wolf. I bet you don;t know how a power station is kept safe, but you still think they should make electricity for you ( a power station uses and produces vastly more energy than the CERN experiment, so is far more dangerous).

Hello,
(ANS) NO!! NOT at all, but I'm a wee bit biased as my cousin is a nuclear scientist and is involved in pure particle research at MIT & CERN in Switzerland.
Frankly, I'd rather see governments spend money on this type of research than spend it on yet more W.M.D such as the outrageous waste of UK tax payers money on another generation of Trident missiles.
**The desire of human kind to understand and make sense of our universe and to unlock the secrets of how our universe was created and how it works is a noble one. Its only mans perversity and governments & politicians that screw it up and turn such research into weapons.
NO!! The new super collider that is still being built will be awesome & I think its getting very exciting to push this research to the next level. Nobody knows what the results will be its very edgy stuff in my view and thats what makes it so interesting. More power to them (scientists that is!!). I cannot wait to see what comes out of this research.

They aren't and you shouldn't think so. Of course, you can recreate your own Big Bang in bed tonight. Again and again. WOW!

their trying to recreate it on a smaller scale and have at least some idea of what will happen so it isn't really a stupid idea to further the investion of how the world started

Studying the structure and behaviour of the sub-atomic world is what led to inventions such as transistors, lasers, diodes... and the computer you are using right now.

Just because you cannot work it out and fully understand what is involved - does not mean others can't. You are arrogant to assume you are the fount of human knowledge.

wasn't aware that there were people trying to do this....but....they're probably not stupid. doesn't help you does it...but think of all the other really clever people around who are putting their energy into something that other people think is a waste of time.. i can feel my brain stretching just thinking about it...
