Generally True,
Sometimes a female will have a small stub. The only female deer with antlers are Reindeer which are actually caribou.
Also the males lose and regrow their antlers each year, the number of points on the antlers increases every year.

First there is a problem with name usage. Deer is a general term for several species of Cervidae in North America. The most common is the white-tailed deer. Yes, the male has antlers, but only during the breeding season. The female never has antlers. However, there have been a few oddities, once in a while you'll find a female white-tailed deer with antlers. So, false.
There is one species of Cervidae were both sex have antlers. The caribou or reindeer.

False:
Caribou (Rangifer tarandus) Alternate name: Reindeer
Family: Cervidae, Deer
"Male and most females have antlers; flattened brow tine projects vertically over snout. Bull antlers branched, semi-palmated, with flattened brow tines, 21–62” (52–158 cm) long; cow antlers relatively small and spindly, 9–20” (23–50 cm) long. Antler spread to 5’ (1.5 m)."

True, except in the case of the reindeer (or caribou), Rangifer tarandus, in which both sexes have antlers. Antlers are used by male deer for competing for mating rights, and are shed and regrown every year, getting larger each time. In the case of reindeer, the male sheds his antlers in late autumn, after the rut, whilst the female retains hers throughout the winter and sheds them after calving in spring. It is thought this adaptation arose so that females could gain access to the best feed during the winter, when they need to nourish their unborn calves. If they did not have antlers, or if the male retained his, the males, being larger and stronger, would drive the females from the best feed.

As a general rule, this is true, however caribou females also have antlers and some species of deer such as the chinese water deer neither sex has antlers.

So, the concesus is "FALSE". Some female do have antlers, or some variation there of. RUDOLPH TDE RED NOSED REINDEER has led us astray for 54 years now, and Clarese actually could have had antlers. Now, we can all go to a bar and wager a BUCK or two on this story

It is true for most members of the deer family. The only exception is the caribou, also known as reindeer in the Old World. Both sexes have antlers.
