What's some good country music for people who usually listen to rock?

My sister recently decided she LOVES country music, and she plays it all the time now. I don't like it, I've tried to listen to it, but I just like rock a lot better. I'm going to make her a CD of country songs I think she'll like that I like too, any ideas?

Try some alt-country such as the Old 97's, Uncle Tupelo and Wilco. Much better IMO than the mostly watered-down commercial country you hear on the radio.

Hank Williams III has a harder, more raucous sound ranging from traditional country to punk.

Southern rock such as the Allman Brothers, Creedence Clearwater Revival and Lynyrd Skynyrd is rock that has a country and blues-influenced sound which can be appreciated by fans of both rock and country (look for their early stuff)

Check out some psychobilly stuff such as Reverend Horton Heat and Southern Culture on the Skids. Some of it's pretty whacked-out, but it features heavy country and rock influences and some pretty hilarious (often raunchy) lyrics.

Johnny Cash is an artist that transcended the country label and has had lots of crossover appeal (check out "Folsom Prison Blues").

Some of the Grateful Dead's early 70's albums such as American Beauty and Workingman's Dead have a lot of songs that can be loosely classified as country-rock, as does early Crosby, Stills and Nash (and sometimes Young).

Depending on what types of Rock you're into and what types of Country she likes (lots of sub-genres in both of these categories), you should be able to find some stuff on this list that you can both enjoy.

Cross Canadian Ragweed, Hunter McKithan Band, and Reckless Kelly are some up and coming country artists/groups that usually have more upbeat/faster songs and an edgier (sp?) sound.
