Has any one made a knitted cap?

I am planning to make a knitted cap, and I don't seem to have any instructions. I want to do rib knitting on the bottom, and I will be using size 5 dp needles. Does anyone know how many stitches to cast on for a sm-med hat? I can figure out the rest, I just need to know how many stitches to start with.

For a 20 - 21" circumference hat, on size 5 needles with DK weight yarn you most likely need 120 stitches. However, the best suggestion is to knit a circular swatch on your needles and measure your gauge and figure the number of stitches from there.

I would suggest looking for a pattern. You can find patterns for knitted hats almost anywhere on the web, and a good place to start would be Knitting Pattern Central. They have a great selection.

    Good luck!

The best thing to do would be to get a pattern. There are lots of places to get a free pattern. Lion Brand Yarn, epattern etc., but my favorite place is Bev's Country Cottage. She has tons of free patterns and most have pictures.
