Help calling Australia?

I am trying to call a friend in Melbourne, Australia. I have an 8 digit local telephone number. I have 61 as the country code.

This is what I'm dialing, but can't get through.

0061-xxxx xxxx

Am I missing something?

Yes you need to dial a 3 after the Country code

    0061 dial into Australia

3 dials Victoria (Melbourne is in Victoria)

    xxxx-xxxx the number.

So it is 0061 3 xxxx xxxx as long as you are not calling from America!!

    You're missing the area code.

Melbourne is (03) but when you dial you leave off the 0.

    Cheers!

PS-- depending what country you're in you'll need more than "0061"-- from the US you'll need 011-61-3- and the 8 digit number you have.
