PS3 blu-ray player vs specialist blu-ray player?

I want to buy a system that plays blu-ray disks, and already have a HD TV. Is the quality of blu-ray disks being watched on the PS3 any/much worse than those played on 'specialist' blu-ray players?

    1. Both units update but if you have the PS3 networked it happens automatically. Advantage PS3

    2. Plays BD, Games, Internet browsing, media storage. Advantage PS3.

    3. BD player can be incorporated into a universal remote control and works easily with one. Advantage BD player.

    4. PS3 looks weird sitting in a rack and can't be stacked with other component on top. Advantage BD player.

    5. With so many operations being handled by the PS3 expect it to break down sooner. Advantage BD player (maybe)

    6. You can get a BD player for $299 on sale and in order to get all the features on PS3 you need at least a 60 Gig player.(go for the samsung 1400 though. It has the feature set of the $699 Sony). Advantage BD player.

    7. The PS3 has a hard drive to store media but the only BD player with a hard drive is the BD media server by Sony. It hold 200 physical BDs and a Huge hard drive but it costs $3500.

If you are into games or want a convenient media storage or internet on tv then go with the PS3. It has enormous capabilities and has a great picture. If you want something that operates like most people are used to the the BD player has it's advantages

no, i have ps3 and my brother in law has regular bluray player and they look the same, however. my ps3 has now broke 2 times and i am returning it for a new one and my brother in laws blu ray player has had no issues but he paid like 300 bucks and you can get the ps3 for 400 so i think the ps3 is still the better option. My ps3 was an older model, supposedly they have worked out a lot of the kinks.

I have both - the picture is the same. The sound is the same. The only problem with PS3 is that the idiotic Bluetooth remote control system, and no ON/OFF from remote.

When magazines review the players, the PS3 is usually the standard which seems to win except for the top of the line players.

It would be the one I would buy if I were in the market.

same video quality DIFFERENT AUDIO. the ps3 lacks the ability to use the lossless audio formats such as dolby hd. that is the only remarkable difference.
