Was anybody else suprised at England or 'Great Britain'?

English coming from abroad to the country that spawned intelligent (Pink Floyd) and multiracial bands etc is a dissapointment to people who thought England wasnt racist and discrimation and full of bullies? That foreigners have more rights? That the streets are ruled by 'idiot racial gangs', that if you try to stop them you get arrested? Lots of people are wrongly arrested and imprisoned? That they have hangups about sex?

Update:

Did anybody else feel dissapointed by their country of birth?

no, sorry, this ¨question¨ doesnt make sense?

    the Floyd are English...

England is racist, its homophobic and xenophobic... because everyone seems to get treated better than WE do.

foreign gangs run drugs, and prostitution, almost with impunity. you call them idiot racial gangs... i would say its the voice of a dissafected youth, getting fed up with the NON Status Quo... we are second class citizens in OUR own country... and if the law cannot protect us, we shall protect ourselfs...

the indigenous population do not fear the state, or the police. we dotn have need to worry... unless were upto no good... and then its an acceptable risk.

It depends what part of England you go to, it isn't all rough!

Small villages usually have a low crime rate, places like the Lake District. The majority of people are friendly and I've never met a gang there...

Obviously the cities are going to have some thugs and gangs, no place is perfect.

Not sure what you are trying to say, but I have respect for England and the UK as they typically have always been an ally of the United States.

I know that they are having internal turmoil with alot of Pakistani and Muslim immigrants, not unlike the turmoil that the U.S. is having with illegal Mexican immigrants.

Also as a side note, what makes Pink Floyd a particularly "intelligent" band. Have you actually ever listened to the garbage lyrics?

I believe that the politicians pander to the minorities to gain votes. I see nothing wrong with minorities immigrating for a better, free life, and when they do they congregate with those of their own background which is natural. It is more the younger ones that form gangs and make life difficult. I believe this is partly to do with fear and ignorance of most persons. When we are say, in a neighbourhood that is primarily of one race we feel apprehensive. When they travel in a strange neighbourhood they feel the same way. If alone, quiet and try not to stand out, but many times, like us, in a group some tend to posture. It is psychological, better to intimidate and be left alone then picked on; however, often that back fires. In reality it is a few with chips on their shoulders that make it look bad for the rest.

I live in Vancouver and travel the Sky Train and buses daily and see this often in certain areas of the city where different minorities have chosen to live with their own race. Most often there is no problem, but now and then words are exchanged mostly by the young and a fight ensues. I've found that the drug trade in the city is the highest causeality of the problem and most of that is with rival gangs often of the same origin. We all need to exercise tolerance and understanding of each others culture.
