Should we not expose children to religious ideas until they reach an age of majority?
We legally restrict underage driving, drinking, sex,/pornography or joining the military etc. We don't allow people to hold public office under a certain age.
since religious ideas are so complex, contradictory, and dangerous in the wrong hands.....why should we not restrict it until a certain age.?
And by this I don't mean "teaching" atheism. They are free to think for themselves about gods or the lack of gods.

Well, if you are going to teach them about religion, you should inform them of all religious beliefs. Unfortunately, parents only inform their children of the religion they believe in.

I don't think a child should be forced into a religion just because of what parents believe, i also think it is morally incorrect for schools to push one religion onto all children without having respect for what religion they might already have which their parents have invested time in teaching them. They seem to be on the 1950's kick of catholic is the be all and end all when in most classes there are at least 4 different religions which seem to be ignored.

That is how it should be but it will never happen.
All the major religions depend on brainwashing children into their belief system. And the reason it will never change is because if children were left to make up their own minds when old enough they would exercise their free will and live a normal life leaving the major religions to die off and peace to come to a troubled world!!!!

Another choice might be to teach them what all of the belief structures have for ideology and let them chose when they reach an age where they want to. I believe that most would stay away from the judeo-christian and islamic structures due to their mythos.

i see your point, but its very extreme. restricting the teaching of ideas seems kind of severe. also it is very impractical. were would you tell your kids you went every Sunday. Driving is restricted because of the rationality and reaction time of kids isn't as good. Early drinking causes drastically increased alcoholism. sex can scar kids mentally. joining the military is because killing kids is wrong and they arnt the greatest fighters.
well debbie, mabey you should try to teach them to respect their authority, not to steal or lie. do you really need to threaten eternal damnation to get your kids not to do certain things.

i do no longer think of it's going to make lots of a distinction. people who prefer to have self belief in issues will proceed to realize this and people who do no longer will proceed to think of for themselves no rely how lots it is placed on them. I grew up in a spiritual family members at 12 I stated I now no longer properly known your ideals and stopped going to church/praying etc. extensive combat yet I stood my floor and finally my father and mom left me by myself. as a effect I continually have an exceedingly solid make certain and don't seem to all people for help, it became right into a solid lesson.

I am not sure what the "age of majority" is but I will say, as a Dad, it is my responsibility to teach my children everything they can possibly know. As parents, no matter what belief, we do our best to teach our children wisdom, how to love, and to be part of the solutions in life and not the problem.
As a Christian and one who loves God and wishes to bring honor to him with my life, I, of course teach the whole Biblical worldview. As a thinker/philosopher trying to make his way in a wilderness I show my daughters what I have seen and experience and why I come to the conclusions that I do. They trust me to give them the reality. As a student of biology, and a creationist, I show them both sides and why skeptics don't like my Christian views and how their views are opposing beliefs and not "verified" scientific proof. I believe in giving them a full education and not censoring to indoctrinate like the public school system does.

Perhaps we should also avoid teaching them about sex, or about any other social issue. Children are free to think by definition.
Silly idea, when you think about it.
