You won't get another answer like the one from neal g, because most people know that the best boilers (uk) are Worcester Bosch and Vaillant, Glow worm is also owned by Vaillant, both had recalls last year for pc boards and heatex seals breaking down. British gas are not the cheapest, nor the best cover, manufacturers cover these days can be from other breakdown companies, so is not an employee of the manufacturer, company I work for are service agents for Worcester Bosch, get a 5 years guarantee and excellent back up, they also have a good breakdown cover, though not in your area, website will give some good advice though.

Worcester Bosch is the BEST combi boiler you can get and the back up service is excellent too. As to cost - depends on what size boiler, where you live and how much pipework needs to be altered. It should be around the £2,000 mark supplied and fitted. As for British Gas - no they aren't good. They over charge enormously (they do offer credit though which is why alot of people go with them) and their installers are not always good. I would try and find a local CORGI registered installer and ask for references from previous work if you don'tknow anyoe who has used them personally. After the boiler is installed DON'T go on a contract with British Gas either - they dont know what they're doing and you'll wait forever for spares for repair. Take out the extended warranty with the manufacturer - £130 per year and that covers ALL parts, labour and a service. They come out next day (same day sometimes) and usually repair there and then xxxx

A lot of boiler engineers on the web-sites rate Viessmann over other makes. Not so well known perhaps as WB or Vaillant. Vaillant's problems with seals no longer exists as the seal has been redesigned. They are a good boiler.
BG can be very expensive for doing the same job as your local Corgi Registered engineer.
