I would place in ad in the newspaper and contact ALL your local shelters and nearby vets (if you live in a big city be sure to target vets that specialize in birds) and tell them you have found this bird. There should be a number on the band, but the true owner may or may not know the number (some people don't pay much attention). So place an ad that says somthing like "Found- Parrot" and don't give specifics like color or species, then when people call, ask them the color and species of the parrot they lost- this way you will avoid scammer trying to get a free parrot. Also, see if your local humane society or vet will check the bird for a microchip. Its becoming more common for bird owners to chip thier birds, hopefully the little guy has one. If noone has reported him missing you can either turn him over to a bird rescue (look on petfinder.com to find them) or keep him yourself. -Neb

Put an AD in the Palm Beach post, saying Quaker parrot
found, with the details, and your phone # I am sure the
owner will call, and when they do! if they have any papers
on the parrot, receipts, or any documented information,
then you could release it. If not keep it for your pet, or
take it to the nearby Zoo.

Thats going to be tough... The band is just from the breeder who sold the bird... More than likely there is no paperwork for the sale...
What city are you in? Try craigslist.com and post a found ad and hopefully someone will post a lost bird ad...
Good luck, and if you cant take care of the bird, by all means take it to a local shelter or petsstore and they will know what to do with it... So sad... :(

try going to yahoo.com and there is a group that deals with lost birds called 911parrotalert. Someone may have posted a lost ad with the birds band number. You can also put up flyers or even call the local vet offices to see if they may have the band registered. Also I know for a fact that when i purchased my parrotlet the breeder took my name and address down.

aww poor birdie! Do any of your neighbors have birds? I'd check with your neighbors first... :-) Are you able to care for him until you find the owner? If not call a bird vet or rescue group in your area and they'll take it from there.. If you ARE able to care for him then nebit214's answer is the best way to go!

Go to www.911parrotalert.com and report a found bird. It's a Yahoo group for people who have lost or found a pet bird. There's an online form you fill out and you can also read through the "Lost" postings to see if someone's reported their bird lost.

the band should have a number on it that is registered with the avian society. that number will trace to the breeder ( if its a split band it will trace to the importer) they should have a record of the owner
