Back in the early 60's my father belonged to a vocal group, Terry And The Tunisians. I recently came across a

British CD which has one of the songs on it as well as a British Movie which has two of the songs in it. Do I, as the surviving heir and/or the surviving members of the group have any legal recourse?

Depends on who owns the rights to their work. Generally the publisher owns the rights, and, if they were a new band at the time, the band members got nothing or next to nothing from it, in terms of royalties and control of the music. If your father was listed as a writer of the songs in question, then there should be royalties coming.

I do believe you would have some legal recourse, but only if the band trademarked or copywrote the songs. If your father wrote the songs he would of had to copywrite them I do believe to have any legal write to them. If no one "claimed" the written song then its up for grabs. If the band was established and trademarked and the songs were copywrote I would so peruse all legal writes to it.
