Night waking in toddlers?

Do you have this problem? I have read questions on here about toddlers waking up at night ( on a regular basis, not just when they are sick). I don't really understand the problem. My son age 2 sleeps all night, since he was 10 months or so. Am I lucky or is sleeping all night the norm?

My son has been sleeping through the night since he was about 11 months old. He's now 3 years and wakes at night only if he's sick. My 17-month-old daughter, on the other hand, wakes at night on a regular basis. It's not a daily thing but it happens often enough. Sometimes, she's hungry other times she just wants to be soothed back to sleep. So, I think it depends on the child.

Your lucky....One of my 5 year old twins sleeps all night every night....the other one wakes up (and wakes me up) 3 or 4 times a night every night! She doesn't get out of bed, she just yells down the hallway....she is very random about her "needs", sometimes she wants to know if my fan is on or if my blinds are closed, sometimes she wants to know what I'm doing or where the dogs are, sometimes she wants to know if her sister is sleeping or whatever random thought has entered her mind....If I ignore her she just gets louder and louder, til everyone in the house is awake and her question is answered....

I live with my older sister and her two and three year olds. I've seen my two three year old nephew get up without waking up his mom and dad and walk around the house very qiuetly. He'll see me in the living room like at 2am or he'll come to my room and whisper as if not to wake up anyone.

My niece does the exact same thing. It's funny how they open and close door being very careful not to make any noise.

normal -just like adults, children wake up in the night. what's important is how the child is able to self soothe himself back to sleep.
