Did you know that Ron Paul ran for President in 1988?

I don't know if many realize this because I have yet to hear anyone discuss it.

I found this video to be rather interesting just because it is 20 years old and yet he still seems to be concrete in his stance on the issues.

I knew about him for several years and I have heard several times that he ran for President in 1988 as a Libertarian. I don't hold this against him because he is completely willing to admit to it and he also has the most Constitutional voting record of any member of Congress. He practices what he preaches.

I wish... But Ron Paul said if he didn't get the Republican nomination he will not be running as independant or libertarian. Also, Ron Paul was running for congress and president at the same time. He is planning to get re-elected to congress. If he ever had a stint as president I could guarentee that he is the only candidate that you would of seen real "change" from for the USA. He had a great idea with currency and the economy.

Yes, I remember (barely) that he was endorsed by David Letterman. Pretty consistent record, though he may have had to change some positions while in the Libertarian party for a bit. He's been a Republican ever since, since all his views are not totally Libertarian (more libertarian with a small l )

Had the internet existed, and more people heard of him, along with todays exacerbated global and national problems, he would have been very popular then too. Right person at the right time.

Source(s): Youtube (2005), Iraq War (preemptive) (2003), huge deficit (1998ish), facebook (2004), NAFTA/CAFTA, meetup.com (infancy during Dean's run), federal intrusiveness and pervasiveness (increasing since 2000), and the GWB gang. Illegal Immigration was also a problem back then, but at 10x less the level.

The guy is awesome. He will turn America around and get back on track. He is well liked by a great cross section of Americans because of his common sense.

He ran that year as a libertarian. Paul claims he has been a lifelong republican, other than that one time.
