Where is the best place to buy an unlocked cell phone or a cell phone without a contract?

I want to buy a phone such as a sidekick or blackberry pearl. However, I only want the phone and not the contract or I want it to be unlocked. Where are cheap places to buy this, besides ebay.

    If you live in NYC go to a place called Cex Phone Exchange in SoHo. Prices there are so cheap and you can trade in your old phone for a new one. Depending on which one you will have to throw in some cash though. All phones there are unlocked. Also try www.craigslist.com, people place second hand items on there and arrange meet ups.

    You can buy a pay as you go cell phone at Wal- Mart, they have many to choose from. Avarage price is about $40.00.
