we regularly work 8 hours shift, but can the company force all of us to work 12 hours at anytime?

we work 8 hours shift, but because of holidays, the company force us to work 12 hours on week after holidays, and not get paid for holidays if we decide to work only 8 hours not 12, can they do that?

Update:

yes before they only ask for volunteers, and yes they told us about this 1 week earlier but still some of us can not stay extra 4 hours, i suppose they can and loose my holiday pay because i could work only 8 hours.

This depends on what state you live in.

A company can set their schedules for employees - however there are rules on breaks. Have they always had this type of schedule or is it new?

Did you have fair warning of the change if it is something new?

Companies can actually schedule you for the Hoiday if that is how the company is run -

if u work more than 40 hours a week then u get overtime. if ur a salary work then no. i would fight it. lowe's had a private case with salary workers. i know cuz my mom was in it. lowe's was stating salary workers would work as many hours as lowe's wanted them to. that resulted in my mom working 70-80 hour weeks. she would sleep in her car in the parking lot cuz she would work from 8am to 3 am and then have to be back at work at 6am. she was told to suck it up. she joined the class action lawsuit and lowe's settled out of court. there were so many ppl sueing lowe's that she ended up only getting $500
