Do you hate it when you go to restaurants?

Do you hate it when employees at a fast food restaurant tell you about their special meals of the day, when you already ordered and know exactly what you want?

I will place an order and tell them exactly what I want and they still refer to their specials they have with food I don't want...

What do you do about this?

Update:

I see lots of good answers so far, but I suppose I should have let it be known that I am also a great cook...

I get take out food because my invalid mother needs food you don't have to chew since she has no teeth and I get her things such as mashed potatoes, creamy soups, watermelon, chopped vegetables, muffins, soft cookies, ice cream, and noodles as treats for her on certain days...

I cannot do this every day and the nursing home she is in cooks for her...

I am disabled and cannot do for her like I want to, but just make sure she gets soft food treats every now and then...

I also like soft foods like these when I am sick and cannot eat spicy rich foods...

Our family seldom visits fast food restaurants.

But even in 'regular' restaurants, one cannot escape being told by the waiters/waitresses about the day's 'special's : These poor persons are expected (if not ordered) by their managements to do so !

...A polite smile, followed by "No thank you. We have already decided on [or, ordered]...." after which you name your own choice of items, usually keeps everyone happy !

    :-))

    At a fast food restaurant...yes, it annoys me. You're usually on lunch break & time is short. I feel sorry for the employees because they are told to do it , which to me is wrong. I don't take it out on them, unfortunately they have to ask. I let them say what they have to say...say no thank you, order my food & drive forward. That's why it's called fast food...order, get your food & leave. You can read the sign on the way to the order site where the menu is all right there. Apparently someone doesn't understand the meaning of "fast food" & is probably the manager. =o}

My father is a qualified and experienced chef, and our family runs a modest Indian 'eatery' in Australia : With a different set-menu for each day of the week, there is no question of our staff suggesting any specials !

As we keep our prices quite reasonable, and offer freshly cooked items at every meal, we do not even need publicity : word-of-mouth compliments about our eatery bring-in enough guests - most of whom soon become our regulars...

...But can any of the multi-national fast-food-chains afford to have such an outlook ? They have to 'push' non-selling items as the day's special, to get rid of any stocks that need to be quickly exhausted - and what better or easier way have they, than to instruct their employees to do so ?!

...I think fast food joints are the last place from which one can expect wholesome 'soft food' and fresh fruit/vegetable salads. God alone knows when they had bought the stuff they serve - which is often kept in cold storage for months together, until exhausted !

Though I am all sympathy for your present predicament and your ailing mom's needs, which would seem all the more worse as you are a good cook yourself, I still feel that there can never be a substitute for the simplest meal - cooked at home, cooked with care, and cooked with love.

No dish prepared in the 'assembly-line' system of fast food joints can ever match it.

And 'special's are usually what are made from long-stored items that are sure to get spoilt in a day or two - and need to be got rid of, at the very earliest !

Yes, it can be annoying, but they are doing their job and doing it correctly. It is their job to sell the specials and some bosses penalize employees if they do not move enough during the day.

They also may feel that you would like a special, more food better price etc.

Don't be annoyed. Just thank them and explain you would like what you order.

Well they HAVE to ask you these questions. I myself work at Burger King and we actually have secret shoppers that came in at random times.

We can get bonus' if we ask those questions.

For example a customer comes up and orders a a Whopper. I ask them would you like to add cheese and make it a meal. If they say yes I then ask them would the like to upsize to a large or king size.

I dont like asking those questions because I know how annoying it is, but recently I got bitched out by my store manager because I got the store a rating of 60%. All because I didnt ask those idiotic questions.

So dont blame us...blame the company!

But before you blast them for doing this you need to know they have to do it, if they don`t they get in trouble from the managers , who get in trouble from their managers, and so on and so on. A way you may handle it is ask to talk to the manager in charge and ask for the 800 number and talk to the higher ups. Don`t take it out on the searver they are doing what their boss tell them they have to do.

Source(s): I was one of the bosses that told them they have to do this because I was told by my boss they have to do this. What a wicked web we weave.

I do not mind them doing that because maybe I'll change my mind of what I ordered and get the special of the day instead. It is nice of them to make me aware of that.

I hate when I call Papa Johns and the employer says, Would you like our new special today?
