If Roy Jones somehow manages to look good in beating Trinadad, then what?

There are serious questions as to whether Jones can beat Tito, but if Roy does, and looks good doing it, what then?

Retirement. Jones does not have nothing to prove anymore. he has established himself as a IBHOF fighter. He needs to retire personally after this fight.

Roy beats Tito, he Kayo's him in 9, IMO. Roy is naturally bigger, has a good dig and can throw really hurtful body shots. WHEN RJ wins, I believe he will go on to fight Bernard Hopkins at Light Heavy, for what is worth now. Or maybe even a rematch with Clinton Woods. He won't go anywhere near Calzaghe or Chad Dawson, because both would destroy him. At the moment, he only seems to be after the big money fights, and after Tito, Hopkins seems to be the most viable option for Roy.

"Tito must go in fo' " so says Roy coming into this fight. Strangely, I think its more of a must win for Roy than Tito.

Roy needs a big win over a name even a smaller faded one to change the wind of perspective that he wasn't a truly great fighter.

No, beating a three time retired blown up welterweight doesn't do that, but losing to Tito would be unforgivable in so many boxing scribes eyes. Roy so much wants to be remember as one of the pound - for - pound greats, but the way it fell apart seemed to say otherwise....

Remember if he retires after the Ruiz fight, he's the greatest thing since Sugar Ray Robinson... You could say he fought "nobodies", but you couldn't say he didn't whip everybody, now he's been KO'd twice....

He needs this one badly, not for me or you, but for Roy, to get "that" swagger back, the talk...the one he had in his heyday, not the statements that lead one to believe that he is speaking about some other fighter, not himself.

As for Tito, he has what Roy didn't get the LOVE of the fans.... Tito could get KO'd in one and people STILL would love him, he endeared himself. Roy in a Floyd Mayweather type of way did not. He spoke in a way that made you WANT to see him lose if you weren't a fan of his, and when he did people jumped all over him, and his fanbase became quiet...

I am a Roy Jones fan, always will be, but I want him to win this one for Roy...

As for where he goes after....

Jones Hopkins II, for the Lightheavyweight Championship, and then retirement...A big 2008, and into the sunset....

    Tito must go in fo'!!!!

I think Jones has a lot better chance people give him credit for. He's still a slick fighter, fast, and more importantly, he's been active in the ring. I've always been a big Trinidad fan, but this fight has tragedy written all over it. Trinidad is stepping into the ring against a very savvy fast fighter after retiring to an embarrasing loss to Winky.

After this, Jones should get another shot at the light heavyweight title at the very least. It's probably the only shot he's got out there, unless Winky or Hopkins want to come up an fight him, which I seriously doubt.

    Hey blog,

I dont know what a win for RJJ over Tito would do for his career considering they are both fighting at the very tail-end of their career's but i will give my input on how i see this fight going.

Round 1 - both come out circling each other throwing half-hearted jabs, lots of holding, little action.

Rounds 2-12 will be the same as round 1

at the end of the fight both will walk away with huge pay checks. I have tried and tried to get excited about this fight but i just can't. I personally think RJJ will win but it will be somewhat of a boring fight. but if RJJ ends up looking good at beating Tito, than i say he should fight in another money maker event and take on the winner of Calzaghe/Hopkins, that is something i might watch.

if you're roy jones i know he's looking past this fight, and the most realistical matches would be to get the 2 biggest paydays and retire and that would be destroy tito which i know he will and then make sure you're in great shape and go after b hop, take him out and then take on oscar and leave the sport with your great name and a bunch of money. and each fight can be easy money and winnable if he get back to the roy jones that loved the sport of boxing

If Jones gets by Trinidad, which I think he will, then I could see Jones either going for a light heavyweight titlest or seeing if he can get a farewell fight with Calzaghe. I think that's the way Jones would like to end his career, assuming its ended with a win.

  • If Jones beats Tito and Hopkins fights Calzaghe and wins then a rematch between B Hop and RJJ HAS to happen.

If B Hop doesn't fight Calzaghe then RJJ should fight him in Wales.

If Jones wins against Trinidad, believe me, it will mean a lot of money for Jones....he will fight Oscar DeLaHoya for the best amount of money in his career since eventhough The Golden Boy career is almost over, he still the man...he can still produce interest in people and therefore a lot of payperview money....after that if he wins...you will see Hopkins trying to get a rematch that never happened...it should be super interesting an money producing (not as much as DELAHOYA). So, if he is a good business man he will do it in that order...if not, he will fight boxers in his prime like Mayweather (believe it or not) and he will lost again and will see him no more in boxing.

He then should give B-Hop a rematch or maybe a Mega Bout with Oscar De La Hoya at the same weight he is fighting Trinidad. I have always wanted to see him fight Chris Byrd at Light Heavyweight!. Beating B-Hop and or Oscar would in my opinion get his rep back to a certain extent. Winning all three then riding off into the sun set would put back into the pound for pound category.

He has said that he wants Calzaghe in England. He is definitely trying to rebuild his legacy after the 3 losses and I think he is doing a great job and choosing fights well. He said he lost interest in Hopkins because he doesn't think Hopkins is seriously interested but you never know. I think he wants to sneak in ahead of Hopkins for the Calzaghe fight and will if opportunity arises.
