If you had tips applied as part of acrylic nails for the first time, it may hurt for a few days. Many nail techs use drills and file too deep in the nail bed. If you have them done again, pull your hand back when it gets warm.
I used to have mine done by a friend and insisted she scuff my nail by hand. I also insisted on thin overlay of the acrylic, basically like two coats of polish, as the thickness. If the scuffing gets warm, it's enough.
They'll probably be sensitive for about 3 days and then harden up. If you keep the nails and continue appointments, tell them to put away the dremel tool. I'd rather pay more for a decent manicure and a light acrylic glaze over my natural nails, than that extra long fake stuff.
If they can't/won't do what you want, go somewhere else.
I'm sorry you've had this experience. I'm a firm believer that nails should never hurt. I've been in places that insist on using that dremel. I get up and walk out.
If you have naturally thin nails, it should only take a light scuffing for the acrylic to adhere properly. Pain should not be involved. Best wishes!

Yes, they will hurt. I am assuming they are acrylic & they are hurting because the nails are curing. They may also hurt because the nail tech used an electric drill & filed off half your nail. I don't know for sure, just guessing since I don't know what type you had put on or what techinque the nail tech used.

If it's your first time then it's normal for them to hurt a bit because you're not used to it.
I get my nails done every 2 weeks so I am used to that kind of stuff. Don't worry about it =)
