add a couple of peeled potatoes and simmer until they are soft ( but not falling apart). They usually remove any salt

Ouch! It's very tough to fix over-salting. You can try to add slices of raw potato -- about 1/4 in thick -- to the soup at room temperature (you don't want to cook the potatoes) and they may soak up some of the salt. Let stand for at least an hour, then remove the slices. Try it. What've you got to lose?

Yes, I concur with the other contributors. Mama would add sliced papas anytime she needed to remove any access salt. Try it, I hope it works.

my mom swears by peeling a potatoe and then cutting it in large chunks. leave in soup until potatoes are soft and then take them out.
