Blonde Australian Shepherd?

We saved a dog from the pound this year. When we took him to the vet locally, we were told he was an Australian Shepherd. He is blonde with long hair and white patches, and darker brown spots on his long nose. Cute/great dog, but I have never seen a blonde Aussie Shep.

Anyone seen a dog with this description??

Hard to tell without photos, but most likely your dog is a mutt. Could very well be majority aussie. No vet can just look at a dog and give you a guaranteed answer of your dog's breed. Good for you for adopting a shelter dog instead of purchasing.

There is a yellow coloring found in the breed that is a nonstandard color.

The patches of color could be a ticking, merle, or harlequin coat patterns.

There is actually a blonde Border Collie specific to Australia. Super expensive and you have to fly there to get one. I know this because my blonde border collie (Rusty) I thought was a mutt. I have a thousand photos of Rusty. A beautiful blonde border collie and probably Australian shepard mix. He was a cancer dogs and is my moniker on Ebay.. Just look me up at blazie59 on Ebay, And no I am not selling anything.

#1: go to the AKC website and follow the links to Australian Shepherd breeders and you'll see a LOT of shepherds who look quite different from each other.

#2: google Australian Shepherds, in the Google Images section and you'll see a lot of pictures.

Aussies come in a really wide range of colors, so yours could well be an Aussie.

Yes the vet you took him to is probally right, Aussies can come in a blondish color and it may be possible he has a bit of mix in him and thats why he looks lighter. But to answer your question "yes" they can be blondish.

    Colors can be...................

    Black

    Red

White with chestnut markings, brown or predominant light brown shades, so this would account for the blonde......

your vet is correct.....must have been brought down in the breeding somewhere....
