Scotch Scones
This is the recipe used for scones for the Queen of Britain
when she had tea at the Empress Hotel in 1939.
2 cups white flour
1/2 cup white sugar
1/4 cup shortening (I use margarine)
4 teaspoons baking powder
salt
1/2 cup raisins
2 eggs
1/4 cup milk
add a few nuts if desired.
Mix shortening and sugar, then add flour, baking powder, salt, and eggs. Mix well, adding milk.
Then stir in raisins.
Bake 425 oven 10 to 15 minutes.

Walnut Raisin Scones
(I add 2 tbls extra sugar and soak my raisins in boiling water for about 10 minutes to make them extra plump)
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons white sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon grated lemon zest
1/2 cup butter, cubed
3/4 cup chopped walnuts
1/2 cup raisins
3/4 cup buttermilk
2 tablespoons buttermilk
2 tablespoons white sugar
2 tablespoons chopped walnuts
In a large bowl combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt and lemon peel.
With a pastry blender or 2 knives, cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse meal. Mix in all but 2 tablespoons of the nuts and the raisins. Mix in buttermilk with fork.
Gather the dough into a ball and knead for about 2 minutes on lightly floured board.
Roll or pat out 3/4 inch thick. With a chef's knife cut into 3 inch triangles. Place, spaced 1inch apart, on a greased baking sheet. Brush tops with remaining 1 tablespoon buttermilk; sprinkle with the remaining sugar and the nuts.
Bake in center of 425 degree F (220 degrees C) oven about 15 minutes or until nicely browned. Serve warm with butter or jam.

I am assuming you are American or English. Here is a good old Australian recipe.
For a sweet scone. 3 cups of self raising flour. 1 cup of cream. 1 cup of lemonade (sprite). Mix all together then add whatever dried fruit and/or nuts your little heart desires.
For savoury scone. 3 cups self raising flour. 1 cup of cream. 1 cup of soda or mineral water. (sparkling). Mix all together then add whatever your little heart desires. Try cheese, bacon, onion, parsley, pumpkin the combinations are endless.
Shape, brush with beaten egg or milk. Oven should be about 180 degrees Celsius. Bake till cooked.
They are really yummy, never fail and easy to prepare.
GOOD LUCK.
