SENSE of HUMOUR is it always subjective?

I find some things others laugh at a great turn off........literally. I turn it off. Most of it would only amuse six -year olds in the playground. On BBC7 yesterday we had several hours of the most boring material ever (Shuttleworth as the Comedy Controller ) but somebody must find it funny.

Who do I like?.....Victoria Wood, Milton Jones, Joyce Grenfell, Linda Smith in her programme "A brief History of Timewasting." Kenny Everett, Flanders and Swan,....etc

Update:

As a child I hated slapstick, custard pies etc and without my influence my children don't like it either. Didn't like Chaplin but loved Keaton.

Don't find I laugh at anyone to make me feel superior.

I want to be amused.

Update 2:

Suzi.......I listened on and off because I don't need much sleep and I kept going back to the programme to see if there was anything worth listening to yet. sometimes BBC7 is really good

Sometimes finding 'humour' funny depends on the moment in time and the circumstance. Some old comedy is still funny because it is still relevant in today's world - some not. Some jokes about death are funny because they are a way of dealing with an awkward situation, such as the death of someone famous; some do not serve this purpose. Sometimes we laugh at someone in comedy because it makes us feel superior; sometimes we don't need or want to feel superior.

Ever noticed how we're the only animals on earth with what we call a "sense" of humor? (and I don't think Hyenas "laughter" is the result of hearing a funny joke...).

Did you know that major hospitals have now incorporated cinemas where they show comedies . Scientists have discovered that laughter releases endorphins and enkephalins, natural painkillers that reduce stress, pain, promote healing and help people who suffer from insomnia. Laughter is also the secret of creative social interaction - it brings people together.

If I have a choice between laughing and crying...I'd rather laugh.

You are absolutely right Sense of Humour is Subjective

I like a comedian to be naughty but I do not like vulgarity for the sake of it .

Unfortunately there many gifted comedians WHO are rude without needing it .

I think so yes, for example some people prefer slapstick, others subtle dry humour...it depends on the person and on whether they 'get' the joke.

Sense of humor is always subjective - One is amused by whatever one finds amusing, and it can never be explained or enforced.

Think it is. i share your liking of the comedians listed but people say I have no sense of humour - just a sense of the ridiculous. I think they are often the people you describe in your first paragraph.

Yes. But some senses of humour are more subjective than others.
