My bird is flinging water and other things everywhere. What to do?

My pet Senegal likes to take a bath and gets everything in a 10 foot radius wet. He also of course gets seed and stuff on the floor. We live in tighter space now so this means he is getting books and things wet. I know about a seed guard or cage skirt to help with seeds but what about the water that doesn't collect just around the bottom?

Update:

Unfortunately he will not take a bath on cue. I have tried bringing him in the shower or using a sink/ tub or bowl as mentioned but he is not interested unless it is on his terms it seems.

He is a very happy bird though!

hehe.. i have a friend who has a rainbow lorri and he gets soaking wet in his bath... dripping wet!!! he's so happy doing it though and it is a small house so what my friend has done is got some thick clear plastic and stuck that to the side of the cage using thing magnets on the outside to keep it in place. there is also the same plastic on the floor as a big sheet which can be cleaned regularly with a mop. I'm sorry I'm not sure what kind of plastic it is but am positive you will be able to find some in a hardware store.

hope this helps you with ideas :)

Oh, I feel your pain. I have a Meyer's Parrot and he too enjoys his baths! He likes to wash in his water bowl and WILL NOT wash anywhere else. He only bathes when the water has just been changed, though. What we did is buy 2 pieces of plexiglass to slip onto the sides of the cage when he gets his bath face on. You could also try a plastic tablecloth draped over his water area.

I liked Grandma_'s shower idea. If it were my bird I would construct a shower curtain around the cage using heaviest guage clear plastic you can buy at hardware store. Also ask them for suggestions on how to suspend curtain. Some type of shower rod that can go around cage but far enough away so bird can,t chew plastic. Use your imagination and build something custom

try water bottle training him and taking him to the sink or shower for regular birdie baths

EDIT~~~~ Try placing a shallow pie pan in the bottom of the sink let the warm water fill and then trickle a slow stream to hit the edge of the pan. He will have his choice of shower or bath. This is the easiest method of getting a stubborn bird to learn to take showers. Good luck!

Well, you could get a separate bird bath that has a plastic cover or something around it. That would keep most of the water from going everywhere.

Birds love water! Its good that he's doing this. It means that he's happy! To catch the water, try putting disposable bed gaurds on the floor beneathe his cage. You can also try absorbent cage liners for small animals (found at any pet store or Wal-mart). I really hope this helps! Good luck!

take him into the bath room when u give him a bath, they just fling water because its better than getting his whole body drenched. if there is a special bowl he taks a bath in, just put that in a bath tub so when he flings water, it will hit the inside walls of the tub.

Avian Select Clear Seed Guard from Petco is what I use.

...if you have a bird bath in his cage do not use it because they suck...i sudjest you give him baths in the sink...just don't put to much water in just enough to cover his feet and use a squirt bottel and spray him with it...also don't add soa either...if he is flinging water from his water dish...that is beacuse you are not giving him enough baths...good luck
