I need help. My 6 month old puppy is peeing all over!?

Hi. As you can see by my screen name I am a pet sitter. I always considered myself to know quite a bit about animals but I'm at a loss on this one.

My 6 month old puppy keeps peeing all over the house. We've potty trianed and crate trained this entire time and we are still having big problems with him. We leave him out whenever he wakes, eats, plays, or every hour or two in between religiously.

He is able to hold it for up to 8 hours at night while sleeping without having an accident so I know he's capable.

When he goes he first lets out a traveling warning dribble. If we don't notice him doing that he will let out a full pee within 2 minutes or so. There are the rare occasions when he will stare at us to let him out but that's only about 25% of the time. He even pees in his cage!

Please help, we are at a loss.

P.s. we already know it's not a urinary tract infection, medical issue and it doesn't seem to be marking teritory related.

How do you know it's not a urinary tract infection?

Have you had the dog vet-checked for UTI?

Have you had the dog vet-checked for worms?

Worms can cause this kind of problem

Depends on the breed, my Swissy did the dribble while walking as well. I was told by the breeder that this was normal behavior for some male swissies and just took longer to train.

Are you going outside with him when he goes out? Cause some puppies go out and play, and forget they need to actually potty outside.. you may want to go out with him, make sure he does his business and bring him back in, then you can let him back out for playtime if you need too.

How much water is he drinking and is he a small breed?

Also, I know you know said it is not a medical issue but was his urine cultured? Some dogs can get ecoli backed into their kidneys via their mother have a urinary tract infection while giving birth.... urinalysis at the vets can be normal and some may notice a low specific gravity. The only way of finding out is through a culture of the urine and even an ultrasound.

I am only 12 but I do my own pet sitting so this thing is normal what I did is I made my own scedule for when should I feed my dog and what time should I take her out once she was used to that I started potty training her now if he keeping on peeing try putting hime on the trainning mats or when u see him going to pee quickly take him towards the mat and tell hime to pee on the mat u must shout at him and make him understand but dont hit him if this does not work visit my website and I will tell u personally what to do if this does not work.

  • If you took him to the vet, then he is simply not potty trained. He needs to be CRATED if you can not give him FULL attention.

My weimaraner use to do this. Not because he had to go. but he knew if he peed just a little I would take him outside. Then when I let him out he would just run and play with the neighbors dog. Manipulative little boy.

I started back from square one with the crate and he is better!!

My yellow lab would never "tell" me when he had to go. He didn't even let out a bark till he was over a year old. Sometimes I didn't catch on to the intensive stare he was giving me. SO what I ended up doing was tying a jingle bell on a string to the front door. I taught him to hit the bell with his paw if he had to go potty. My guess is your puppy just doesn't know how to tell you he has to go...try the jingle bell. And make sure he gets a treat each time he goes outside like a good boy.

    Good luck!

"We've potty trianed and crate trained this entire time and we are still having big problems with him."

Your dog has obviously not completed his training yet. Some dogs take considerably longer than six months to be completely reliable.

Continue training. He'll figure it out soon enough.

at first i thought of infection but since you eliminated that-might i add good for you to check that out-my suggestion as i have done with pups is after the evening meal there is no more water till the morning meal.imagine yourself drinking a quart of water early evening or before bed-get where i am going here? you are going to want to go but imagine you can't--that could be painful.if you were desperate-i mean really desperate you'd go to relieve the pain. i truly hope you consider this possibility. hope it helps

did he come from a breeder who did not keep his area clean? I have seen this behaviour in dogs who were becoming sexually mature... hormones not necessarily marking. Try a dog trainer who works with this problem.

try him on the specially designed dog pads to help with house training spending as much time as you can with him may help you to recognise when he needs to go. like all animals he will telegraph this
