How do you feel about Mike Huckabee's religious beliefs concerning marriage?

I'm really interested in Christian perspectives on this. Will this influence your vote?

Mike Huckabee is a Southern Baptist minister who is running for President of the United States. He is currently tied for the Republican nomination.

Part of the Southern Baptist Convention's position on marriage states: "A wife is to submit herself graciously to the servant leadership of her husband even as the church willingly submits to the headship of Christ. She, being in the image of God as is her husband and thus equal to him, has the God-given responsibility to respect her husband and to serve as his helper in managing the household and nurturing the next generation."

When the SBC released this position, Huckabee, along with other pastors, took out a full-page ad in USA Today stating, in part, "You are right because you called wives to graciously submit to their husband's sacrificial leadership."

Liberal media? The first source I listed is the Southern Baptist Convention website. The second is a Southern Baptist news agency.

Update 2:

Agnostic_I_Think:

Last I heard, the Iowa Caucus exit polls have him neck and neck with Romney. Total results aren't in yet. I'm assuming that's what you're talking about. I haven't heard of any Republican debates in the past couple of weeks.

That is between him and his wife.

I'd never vote for the man.

Dude, do no longer placed too lots inventory interior the Huckabee ingredient. it extremely is going to likely be short lived. I stay in Iowa. we've some mega churches right here that mobilized the troops. We particularly have a plethora of small city, bored, Christian housewives. they actually do no longer run the show. maximum persons in Des Moines have been honestly bowled over that Huckabee gained. the actual reason for it exchange into that there have been no actual reliable showings by utilizing Republicans in Iowa in the previous the Caucuses. We have been DELUGED by utilizing the Dems. So, it exchange right into a crap shoot for the Republicans. they might've thrown Reagan's corpse up there, and he might desire to've gained.

Quite honestly, it makes me want to puke. Or defenestrate myself. I have no problem with religion. I do, however, have a problem with others pushing their religious beliefs on me. Unfortunately, that's what often happens with Republican presidents.

This is one of the large reasons I could never be a Christian or Muslim, no offense to either religion. I simply will not bow down to anyone. I'm perfectly willing to work in conjunction with them, compromising in order to create a mutually beneficial atmosphere and healthy relationship. But I don't like being controlled. And I refuse to have kids: I just don't want them.

I'm perfectly capable of making my own decisions, thanks.

Personally, I view all relationships as being a partnership. Meaning that two people WORK TOGETHER as PARTNERS, with neither being a control freak over the other. It's perfectly possible, and it actually works quite well. I know many families with this sort of arrangement.

I agree with one of the people above me... if another Republican is elected, I just might have to permanently remove myself from this country. We're supposed to be a democracy. Not a theocracy. As in: religion stays out of government. Period.

People should keep their religious fanaticism where it belongs: in their house, and out of other people's lives.

Well, there is more to this than meets the eye. This being a house hold in which the husband is a follower of Christ. If he is not, a wife should still be submissive trusting God to take care of what he can not. Having said that, if the husband is going directly against God, then no, of course she should not follow. There is more involved than a simple pull of a verse of scripture here. It is a lifestyle that applies to Christians who follow Christ. It has no implications to someone who is not saved, though it should and they should be, however, all are not.

If this Nation was a Christian Nation who adhered to Biblical truth and followed God's word completely and obediently, there would be no question, however, we no longer are.

I agree with what he says, though with the Nation as it is today, many will not hold these words for any worth, as we have turned our backs on God. It is how it SHOULD BE.

I think it is a GOOD thing that he thinks this way.

Do you really care how anyone else feels? Your opinion is obvious.

    I'm not voting for him.

(By the way, the bible also says that men must LOVE their wives and treat them as part of their own body. If they really did that, it wouldn't be a problem to submit to their will since it would be in tandem with their wive's will, but most men don't.)

Oh boy...if that guy gets in...I'll put up my "Welcome to Canada" sign.

    Peace.

Edit: Did he(Huckabee) make it into the debate? Or is it too early to tell?

Edit: yes that's what I was asking...that is very shocking..neck in neck you say. What are you guys going to do if he actually gets in there? This is really not good. Life as you know it will be gone. Even more lost in hype then it already is. My best to you.

When Bible says submit it means in Spiritual matters,The man has responsibility to love his wife as the church more 1 god 2 wife 3 children 4family 5 others we are to love all and serve all, inverse kingdom where the King is the biggest servant!

  • 1 decade ago

I agree with it too. The problem nowadays is husbands don't love their wives the way the Bible says they are to love their wives (love as in the verb, not the feeling) but still expect submission from their wives. It doesn't work that way. 2 way street, If you love your wife the biblical way, she will have no problem submitting like they are describing. took me 10 years to figure it out and my marriage has been incredible ever since in every aspect.

I'm still not voting for Huck. His record doesn't match his promises he's making. Not a genuine person IMHO

I didn't read your question, I just wanted to sit back and wait for all of the anti Christian/Republican/Pro-marriage answers to come in. some are interesting but most are just hateful rants. But all are entertaining.

These beliefs are the same for Roman Catholics.

Pope Benedict XVI would agree with his assessment of the roles of wives and husbands in the Sacrament of Marriage.

    I LIKE MIKE!

He is more Catholic than Rudy Giuliani!!! (I realize that he is Baptist, but his positions are closer than this wolf in sheep's clothing)

four words: separation of church and state. someone with such strong religious convictions in such a position of power scares the hell out of me.

not that it matters who they choose to run on the republican ticket--theres no possible way another rep could get elected after this administrations mockery of a presidency.
