Looking for a breeder willing to donate an older pup?

for service dog work. this is pretty much just a poll to see if any breeders out there are willing. not looking for show potental just a good working partner. i say this is a poll mostly because for the most part i know many breeders do not donate pups. and i just want to know if any out there are willing

Well in the past I've donated dogs to folks for work as service dogs, SAR dogs and to the police for narc work. It purely depends on the individuals and groups involved. I've also donated dogs to Jr. Handlers in the past.

Bonsylar obviously has no idea what responsible breeders are about.

At any rate, I don't know that many breeders would be willing to GIVE a pup to an individual, or if any groups training these dogs would accept just any dog from a breeder. Service work requires a very special sort of dog, and not just any pup will do.

You should go to different breeder's websites and ask if they have any older puppies/dogs available. Most do (either not fit for breeding purposes/need more room/retired from breeding etc.) and will sell at a discounted price or even give the dog away for free. Thats how I got my dog. You just have to go online and find some breeder's sites and ask.

I don't know but it seems to me it could be used as a tax deduction to do so.

if a person or an organization can't afford to buy a puppy then they wouldn't be able to properly take care of one either. i am not a breeder yet but i don't believe that all breeders are in it for only money. i know that taking care of a pet is very costly and if someone can't afford a price well vet bills are alot more.

you should look up the ameerican kennel club and locate breeders near you for the particular dog you want. you might pay alot though but its worth it.

    Most "breeders":

    1) Are only in it for the money. Asking them to give one away is just silly.

    2) Don't keep the puppies around long enough to qualify as "older". They either sell them young or dispose of them somehow. Can't have them eating profits, now can we?

Best place to get an older pup is from a rescue.

If you make a reputation for yourself as a service dog trainer, and get a non-profit license, you may get them cheap or free. Depending on the shelter.
