My computer is freezing before in start up at the first screen?

alright.. it used to not start.. just press the power button and it would not start up.. now it is just freezing at the first screen that says esc or del as options.. but pressing the keys does nothing.. i have no clue how to fix it.. i am in college so i am broke and can't afford a new computer or to get it fixed.. what are things i can do that might fix it myself.. oh and for a couple of days it was just not starting at all.. but it switched to freezing at the first screen..

Update:

when i first said that it was not starting at all.. i meant that some times it would work fine.. some times it would not start at all.. and then for a few days it would not start at all.. and now it just freezes while booting up.

I think your PSU is damaged, this happened to me a while back and i bought a new PSU and it worked fine, just buy a ~$60 PSU and give it a go, you wont lose any data so its safe.

That, or your motherboard is shot, in which case you'll need someone with some advanced skills to fix it (maybe a friend).

The worst that could happen is that you don't have a bad power supply but you have a spare one for when it does go.

    Hope this helps

put your computer into ssafe mode... look it up:

click F8 when your computer is just about to boot up

Create account in there... and delete the old one ...

Try this: power on the computer, and keep hitting F8. This will bring up alternate startup options. Choose "Safe mode with networking" and hit enter. Once you're in (assuming you can get in, if you can't, you'll really need to bring it to a pro) go to the start menu, select "run"and type in "cmd" Hit enter and you'll get a dos prompt. In there, type in "chkdsk /f/v/r" It will tell you that it can't dismount the drive and would you like to schedule a checkdisk, type y for yes and hit enter. It will tell you that a checkdisk is scheduled when you next restart your computer. This will fix *some* problems. I can't guarantee anything, but if anything is going to fix it without you having to spend money to do it, this will be it.
