Violation ?

Just had one (my first I think) apparently my perfectly valid comment doesnt count as an answer.... technically I guess that's correct.

How many violations have you received and like me do you feel violated because it was (in your opinion) unfair?

Happy New year everyone may it be prosperous and fulfilling!

Update:

Thanks for your answers I am sorry to hear so many of you have similar complaints about the system - you have my sympathy. Thanks for helping me to feel better.

Just to add my voice to the choir, I got a violation notice this morning for an answer which addressed the question and presented additional information. A real answer. But someone didn't like my opinion and I get a violation for it. Points deducted and my sense of sense and self ruined without the ability to confront my accuser. The automated system claims to have an appeals process but it doesn't. I have never had a single email responded to when I have inquired about violations.

Now I'm gun shy about answering any questions and that's not what is supposed to happen here.

I know what people are thinking -- it is better to be too protective and not let haters and fools run wild, and I should be appreciative for a free service like this. I don't agree. Either be unmoderated and let things happen however they happen, or have actual humans invest the time into violations (which would cost lots of money and change the entire nature of the system). I think we have all seen dumb or bad (non)answers NOT get violation notices and valid responses be pulled. A human review system might address this but would add more capital costs which would have to be paid for by someone. Unlike some people, I actually am cultivating a reputation and trying to make an account which stays on the right side fo the rules. Docking me points with no explanation doesn't help me and I really care!

I have no answer. I'm just still smarting from that email and felt like venting.

    Thanks.

    I've Had 8!

It Was Only For Repeting Myself At An End Of An Awnser And Adding A Hyperlink In My Question!

    That Was So Unfair!

I am currently using this cunningly disguised second account as my main, level 7 account is suspended, and Yahoo do not even have the courtesy to tell me why. I got a trite message saying that 'possibly' I had broken the guidelines! To paraphrase Sideshow Bob, you don't get a Nobel Prize for possibly being good at Physics! All my protests and requests for an actual explanation just result in being sent a link to the guidelines!

I'm afraid you just have to accept that the Yahoo moderators do not know what they are doing. Theysystem is chaotic and unfair, and detracts from the enjoyment of the site. People have been protesting this for as long as Answers has been running!

I failed to answer a question but only gave advice. This advice was not appreciated so I had a violation for NOT A QUESTION OR AN ANSWER. I had 2 of these in one day. There is no point in answering the violation because the reply comes from a robot and is always the same. It never ever answer your complaint about the violation. Just forget it and carry on.

I got one violation for a question and one for an answer, and they were both within the rules.

I sent yahoo an email (appeal) about both of them.

I would not worry, seems to be happening to quite a few around here.

    Happy New Year!

Yes I had one for soliciation. I have not to my knowledge been a street walker. Yes they can be enormously petty. Trouble is the system is obviously automated. Computers do not have a sense of humour or the ability to make judgements. Just ignore it or e-mail them & give um a good talking to as I did. Oh happy new year to you to.

I got one the other day - was having a laugh with a bit of tongue in cheek - but the guy obviously realised I was right - so reported it! The jerk.

  • I've lost count of how many I've had & 99% of them are unfair. I used to get annoyed but now I don't care, I just delete the email & forget about about it.

  • 2, but I know my answers and comments are correct.
