people take this so seriously?

I find it absolutely amazing how many people do not read the questions through or do not look at the additional text. I also find it depressing that people give answers thumbs down, not because they are a bad answer but because they are expressing an opposite point of view to what they think. I confess that I have been guilty of asking really silly questions in the past, (only when completely bored) and have been amazed at the straight answers.

I understand what you're saying and I'm guilty of getting a good joke myself. People can be a bit too serious. Religion &Spirituality section is famous for this. When a question is clearly a joke I treat it as such and say thanks for the 2 points. You get the thumbs down because the trolls are everywhere just dying to rain on your parade. Don't worry and just answer the way you want.....d*mn the trolls!!!!!

Q&A should be taken seriously, it's a database for sharing information. There are many other options outside Q&A for having fun and a growing number of people fail to realize that so in the name of fun they post with questions or answers that violate the guidelines and recieve violations for doing so then complain people are mean or non-fun. I'm not one to feel sorry for them, I have to follow the same guidelines and I enjoy using Q&A. If I see a post that is a violation I am likely going to report it, I don't like it but as a contributing member I want YA kept safe and a useable source for finding and sharing information.

People are immature, naive and gullible, ie., teenagers. Do thumbs up or down give you points or just make you feel bad. Don't take your critics seriously either. People don't usually know anything about anything and their opinion is worth bothering with. Ignore them or block them off, an option you can afford with so many people on here.

I try to give it half and half. I always have meaning behind what I say because I do believe that to give serious imput was the original idea of this site. But, I also try to mix humor in with most of my answers (while appreciating it from others). After all life is dry if you can't have a good laugh!

I know what you mean. I got thumbs down and no thumbs up though I changed my first answer thinking that was the problem. I posted "This question was posted in fun but the thumbs down have taken the fun out of it for me."

You answer these 'having a laugh' questions jokingly and people put thumbs down.

I can't answer your question but maybe people can't have a laugh and just chill a bit. Maybe it should be there 2008 resolution.

We all need to remember that this is different to talking. On here we don't get any facial expressions or vocal tones to give us the normal clues about someones intentions.

All we have is the written word, which is pretty sterile when you think about it!

I think we all need to be a bit more patient with each other.

i think they just don't have anything to do and i think they just wanna have funn.....they don't realize the true meaning of thee yahoo anwsers......they just wanna waste there time from other people so they can see anwsers that they can laugh about.... i dont kno y u get thumbs down... but for those who are doing these things are COMPLETE MORONS and they shouldn't be using yahoo anwsers if there gunna do this.... its wasting there points and there time....................and people are giving them anwsers to there questions but there just havin a laugh... there complete idoits and there whole life is having funn and not being a grown up... serious....

Its one of the consequences of spending time in a forum thats aimed at the 18-25 age group. They don't know enough to take life with a grain of salt.
