Walking stick... In fact I've made many! I love the feel of the wood in my hand... there are a lot of things you can do with a sturdy walking stick! Kept my dog from being struck by a rattler once with my walk'in stick!

I have both and think they are similar. I used a cane after foot surgery and a walking stick when I hiked (which I can't do at the present time). The walking stick is taller and good in the mountains. The cane is better around town. What I really like is my walker. I bought a cheep one to go to the fair last year ($99 at Walgreen's). It has a seat, so I can sit down when I need to and a basket for my purse and small packages

From the walking sticks I have seen, I think they are more for
a fashion statement, or a fashion accessory for men. My late
aunt used one to help walk up the road to a friends' house,
but I don't think she put all of her weight on it. It was verly dec-
orative with a gold eagles head.
I use a cane that is metal, and does hold weight. And so I
would trust it, if I started to fall, instead of a wooden walking
stick, which probably would snap in the center, and I'd fall to
the ground.
I have a problem with arthritus in my spine, and have pain in
both my hips as well, from a car accident, when we were
rear ended. It's gotten worse each year since.

It depends on the weather. If it's to hot I prefer taking them on walks in the early morning and late at night, although they still get a short walk (20-30 minutes) some time during the day. If it's to cold I do it the other way around. But they always get AT LEAST 3 proper long walks every day (about 3-4 hours all in all). My personal favorite is taking walks after midnight in the summer. There are no people out and everything is silent and calm.

I like the walking stick for hiking or if going on long walks only. It give balance.
In hiking I have used it in helping others to climb over rough surfaces while I braced against a tree. On notable hikes, I do etch in date and name of trail/climb on the stick.
I own several walking sticks.

Don't need one yet. If I did I would want the walking stick cause I could use it to keep the wolves and bears away from me when I take a walk in the woods.

I use a cane now. I don't think I would be able to balance good enough with a walking stick.

I hope I never need one but I know some who really like the quad cane. It has 4 little feet on the end and is very sturdy.

A walking stick. Last night at the opera I saw a very old man with a walking stick and he looked elegant. If we must get old we may as well do it with style.
