Do you ever feel completely disconnected? Like..an alien:(?

Days of complete "normalcy," of normal social behaviour and connection. Followed by abrupt moments when it's like another ...world. In the sense that you get the frightening, stomach -upsetting feeling that you're alomst not human..you just contemplate the world from the side. Like a spectator to a play. And this play is the same one you've actually taken part in just hours ago, when u did feel connected.

How can this be? How can such completely different states of mind (co)exist in the same person??????????

Is there a name for this?

Update:

the WORST thing is that your loved ones (when u're normal) SUDDENLY feel like strangers when you get in that "zone." And I mean really...strangers..like u don't have anything in common with them.

Update 2:

yes! It's like I'm actually disconnecting from myself!

I have never felt like this. Please see a doctor and tell your parents. Extreme mood swings is a sign of bipolar disorder and these mood swings can be controlled with medicine.

WOW!! I know exactly how you feel. First off, I doubt very much if you are like...an alien. I have come to the conclusion that this is just a state that some people go through, believe it or not it will change just as quick as it came (go figure!) but it's true. I used to feel that I was enclosed in glass and I was looking out at everyone and no one could see me within this glass wall. I watched people do things - like dancing as an example and how people (most) got up from their chairs and slowly walk to the dance floor with no motion at all (like some kind of robot) and all of the sudden, hits the dance floor and starts moving and dancing their little hearts out - it's really weird, watch sometime!! You wonder how come you are the only person in the world that notices it.

Everyone goes through spells where they feel they don't belong - the family just seems weird and it feels again like you are on the outside looking in, "like a play in slow motion".

No body you are watching acts like you do, they just don't think or relate the same as you!!

Don't worry you are very normal. Just don't let it consume you and you will be fine. Just remember that you have to be you, you don't want to replicate any one else. Be true to your ideas, your own way of relating and communicating. You'll be just fine. I really think it is just a process of deciding how you want to relate, how to do want to see things, making the right decisions for you - and being true to who you are and know that that is okay, that is how it is suppose to be. Just be YOU.

Be Patient with YOU. It really is ok. Good Luck.

Yes. It's detatchment disorder, or dissacociative disorder, and is pretty common in people who have been abused, live in violent circumstances, have been raped, or otherwise traumatized, like the 9/11 survivors or what used to be called "shell shock" in war veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) . It's a coping/defense mechanism and can last the rest of your life.

It sounds like you are dissociating, which is something that happens to me all of the time so I can truly sympathize. You are actually disconnected from yourself when you are in this state, so you are disconnected from your emotions and your thoughts don't even feel like they belong to you sometimes. But the emotional separation is why you feel estranged from your family.

I would recommend talking to a professional about this , as it is very disruptive and upsetting.

I sometimes feel like the world revolves around me, everyone and everything is not real, nothing is real but me. It feels lonely at times but in order to get by I just perform my daily tasks like I'm supposed to. It's never overwhelmed me though.

    Good luck friend

Psychiatrist aren't that expensive, I'd go see one if I felt like that, especially before I'd take advice from anyone on here about my mental health. Good Luck and Happy New Year!!
