Do Police Officers Know This?

Ron Paul just introduced a bill in the House of Representatives that "would help cops obtain topnotch body armor that would withstand rounds fired from most firearms."

"For example, the American Federation of Police -- with well over 100,000 members -- recently praised Ron Paul for introducing a bill that would help cops obtain topnotch body armor that would withstand rounds fired from most firearms. Rep. Paul's bill -- HR 3304 -- would amend the Internal Revenue Code to provide for a tax credit to law enforcement officers who purchase their own body armor."

Update:

correrafan - He knows that the IRS can not be abolished without passing a bill first. It would have to go through the house and the senate. If elected, he can only bring up the issue, raise awareness, and ultimately have it shot down.

It may or may not happen. First we need to make sure Ron Paul gets in the White House.

Update 2:

Livin - Pro-Life, Anti-Immigration, never voted for a tax in his life, small government --- What exactly is liberal about that? Or are you just stuck on his foreign policy which, by the way, is what the founders of this country stood for.

Protect this country. Don't take it overseas.

Update 3:

Marc X - I don't know about where you live, but in my small city I have a friend who is a cop. He has a wife and a kid. Both work. They live pretty much paycheck-to-paycheck.

Update 4:

hmmmm . . . looks like I should have checked the reputability of the American Federation of Police before I asked this!

To be honest, I didn't know that Ron Paul had introduced this bill. However, as another answerer states, I can already deduct the cost of body armor, but a tax credit would be better than a deduction.

Also never heard of the American Federation of Police.

CORRECTION: Ron Paul introduced a bill that was designed to generate the HEADLINE that it would help Officers obtain body armor. A tax credit provides ZERO funds to buy even one officer ANY armor. ALL officers already have the same option to purchase body armor that they would have if the bill passed.

I am certain that the American Federation of Police has informed MANY times the number of officers as you question will.

I've been a police officer for over 30 years and I've never even heard of the "American Federation of Police" before today.

My research into the AMERICAN FEDERATION OF POLICE AND CONCERNED CITIZENS indicates that their membership includes security guards and private citizens.... and that REAL police officers can join for free...

So, who cares....?? Ron Paul has about as much chance being elected as I do......

That's politicians for ya; promising what's already available. A cop who buys his own body armor for his work can already deduct it on his taxes.

Good idea, but I thought Ron Paul said that he was going to abolish the IRS as his first presidential act after his inauguration...

He can't have it both ways...

If they focused on hiring intelligent cops with high IQs they'd have the sense to preserve their safety rather than rely on ganging up on citizens... afraid of the one who will send them to push daisies
