Why are any of the 10 commandments specific to a period in history?

If God is infinite, all seeing and all knowing, why are some of the original ten commandments only relevant to the time they were provided by God? Why has god not directly provided a new, more relevant set or are we still supposed to be keeping slaves?

You overlook something important. That law was a covenant. There were parties to it; God and Israel. That covenant ended.

    It is completely irrelevant today.

You are saying it is OK today to Murder, lie, steal, sleep around, treat your parents like dirt..etc...God hasn't changed, the commandments haven't changed. It's a shame we have.
