Why does my mom feel the need to have the dining room table set and ready for business at all times?

She turned 50 recently and that's when it all started.

Dingle, there's an old Marine Corps saying, "Is THIS the hill you want to die on?"

She's got some maternal nesting type thing going on, and it's best not to disturb it.

I say it's better than having a Mom who has a table that you can't even find because it's so cluttered with junk and a paper trail 24 hrs a day. If you want to make BIG brownie points with mom tell her you appreciate it that she likes things so neat. She will wonder what the heck you are up to but it will make her day. I'm a mom and I understand this thinking.( smile).

You're just jealous because my dining room table has a crane machine and a huge basket full of candy on it. We never actually eat at it, we have metal tv trays for eating on.

Does she run a catering business?

Does she include plastic fruit on the middle of the table?

technical term for this is showcase syndrome. aka showplace syndrome.

if there is a chance that publishers clearinghouse will be showing up with a big check, oprah shows up, or spontanious dinner party pops up on her doorstep, she will not be caught off guard .

    ;)

I reported this question because you still live at home with your Mom and you are 42.
