The wii can hold up to 512 Mega Bites. So If you're a real hard gamer, then if you manage to use of all the space in the wii system, you can buy a wii Scan Disk that holds 1 GIGA bite. The places that you may buy a wii Scan Disk (SD) are listed below.

Walmart, Gamestop, EbGames, Best Buy, Target and Curcuit City.

If you are just a casual gamer you will never need an SD card. The Wii's built-in memory has plenty of room to hold the data for every Wii game you are going to buy, every chanel that is going to be released, and still have some room left over for a few Virtual Console titles.

It's mainly for transporting data between Wiis, or uploading music/photos onto your Wii.

If you want to check how much memory you have left, under Wii Settings there is a menu that shows how much memory each game and channel is taking up.

I think the Wii comes with 2,000 blocks of memory built-in. If you want some kind of comparison, I own 17 Wii titles and have downloaded all the channels, and I still have 1538 blocks free. Most games store information efficiently and take up 1-3 blocks of space. The most any game is currently taking up on my system is MySims with a whopping 97, and that's just ridiculous.

The Wii has 512 MB of Flash ROM, about half of which is reserved. So you get to start with about 300MB.

To put that in perspective, PS2 memory cards were only 8MB, and unless you played a load of sports games, there was never any reason to have more than 1.

    512. You'll ONLY need a memory card if you're going to download a BUNCH of classic games and Wii channels via the Wii Shop Channel. When you buy one, buy a 2gb ScanDisk (or SD for short) memory card, as that is the ONLY type of card you can even use on the Wii.
