Engine seized in recently purchased car.?

I bought a 2003 Nissan Altima (64k miles) from the Nissan dealership Dec 5th and the engine seized yesterday on January 1st. I haven't had the oil changed since I bought the car because they changed it right before I bought the car (mid Nov) . It didn't do any knocking or clatttering or anything and no indicator light ever went on. What do I do?

    call them and tell them to come and get it and demand it be fixed...you should have at least a thirty day guarantee on it

    Buy a new engine and install, or buy another car. Did you check the oil level after purchasing the car? For the future, you should always check the oil every couple of days after you purchase a car, even a new car. This is a good indicator of what condition the car/engine is in and it is your responsibility. No warranty will cover a vehicle if the oil is run low and the engine seizes, that is considered neglect. The warranty will cover the engine if the oil is running low prematurely and you are adding oil on a regular basis, and most dealerships will cover a used car for no more than 4 days, unless you purchase the extended warranty.

    For the most part it is safe. The action location should be a place that does these actions as a business and not a once a year action. These business places most of the time do background checks on the vehicle before they even hit the floor. So if there is anything wrong with the vehicle, like being stolen or having a rebuilt title, then it will have to be marked on the car before it is sold. But it wouldn't hurt to have a experienced mechanic with you to look the car over as you are looking at the cars.

    Yeah, check the oil, and if it,s low add, but don't overfill, The reason being you don't want the dealership to say that you ran it out of oil.

    You should have at least a thirty day warranty.

    When talking to them be ASSERTIVE, it would be in their best interest to not work on the car and just walk away, and that's what they'll try to do.

    If they don't agree to repair the car at no cost to you, then get a lawyer, to make some calls to them ( that might not cost you to much)

    Look at the paper work. Does it say as is? If so you will need to prove the dealer knew there was a problem. Very tough to do.

    However your first course should be to find out what went wrong. Motors very seldom just seize. Call the dealer and see if they will check it out.

    Tobby is wrong, lemon law is for new cars only.

    Normally a used car purchased from a dealer will have a warranty even if it is for only 30 days. First thing is contact the dealer.

    Talk to the dealer first. many states have lemon laws. Find out yours. If you didnt get a warranty, it still may be under a manufacturers warranty. If not you are screwed.

    Depending on your location, here in the USA we have what is called a lemon law. Take it back! By law., they have to refund you every penny!

    probably nothing, you might try the dealer they might try and help you out.. but unless you have a warrenty they really don't have to...
