How to change the light for the gear selector in a 04 matrix?
My wife has a 2004 Toyota Matrix and the light behind PRND21 is out. I have looked but I am unsure how to get at it. Anybody know how to get at it so I am not paying the dealership $250 to replace a $2 bulb.

It's all plastic, breaks easy. The seats may have to come out to get at screws that are hidden, some panels have to be snapped out carefully. Start taking it apart piece by piece and see if the bulb is burnt out . If not start back from the beginning and check the wiring circuit to it. Use you DVM for this. Don't use a test light on anything , only a DVM. If you probe the wrong wire it may take out your computer and that will cost $900.00 not counting labor. Some wiring may have to be disconnected to access some panels (Instrument Panel) Make sure you have a wiring Diagram and make sure you fasten all grounds tightly and all connectors you disconnect must be re-pinned or at least checked. Any other questions let me know. A Technician will check the electrical first, before he takes anything apart.

We had a 2001 Toyota Celica... The lights went out as well. All the covers popped off and well, small pliers. Goes together how it came apart. EZ
