Software piracy issues.?

This forum is not supposed to be used to request illegal items/ keys/ passwords ETC ETC.

Should the violators be reported? Yahoo could shut down this service if any company sues becasue it is being used to promote the theft of intelectual material. What do you think?

I doubt Yahoo could be sued because of an illegal content provided by one of it users after violating the TOS. At most, the offended company would be able to request logs from Yahoo (should they exists) to gahter information helping them identify the offending user.

I think any TOS violation should be reported, and this service provides an easy way to do it by mean of a "Report it" button.

For this service applies the same concept the software developers have to limit their responsability: it is an obligation of means and not an obligation of ends. By providing such a button, Yahoo is doing a reasonable effort to control the TOS violation, fulfilling the obligation of means.

It's up to us, the users to meet the goals.

Yahoo COULD shut down the service if they so desired. But not because of a suit by any company. Such a suit would be useless as Yahoo is a medium, does not control the content of the users, is not responsible for their content, and does not host any illegal material.

If such a suit were to be successful, then every telephone company, every internet provider, even the U.S. Postal Service would be subject to similar suits.

Violators can be reported (and they are from time to time). But you must remember that not all users of this service are subject to the same laws as people in the U.S.A. In some countries those items that are illegal in the U.S.A. are perfectly legal. Those people in those countries are not doing anything illegal.

    Yes violators SHOULD be reported.

Yahoo could only be sued if it could be proved that the illegal activity was reported and they did NOT take appropriate corrective action.

I report OBVIOUSLY illegal questions and/or answers, such as those involving piracy.

I find that the most prevalent requests in MOST categories involve the fact that people are TO LAZY TO READ THE INSTRUCTION MANUALS that come with almost everything.
